Before - This Dry Bar was a Table Saw

Before – This Dry Bar was a Table Saw

Recycling the Old to Give Pieces New Life

What do you do with an older, broken and malfunctioning table saw?  Well, what we do is likely a lot different than most people.  We recycle the old and forgotten pieces and turn them into a new, totally custom, unique piece of wood furniture.  Re-purposing this old skill saw into portable, rustic, wood dry bar was a fun project to watch come to life.

We first broke down the old electric inside, including the saw blade.  We then removed the red base that surrounded the the saw area.  Next we sanded down the metal legs to smooth out the paint chips and other deformities. Once the old saw was dissembled, the new design was drawn out and the new life for this old piece was mapped out.

After – A Beautiful Rustic Wood Dry Bar

Within the design specs, a wooden base at the bottom was added.  This base is perfect to store small plates, glasses or even items like paper plates or napkins.  The base gave a nice balancing element to this custom bar.  While your eyes go to the top of the dry bar as the accents draw your eyes there, the base helps to center the view so the piece is not as top heavy.

Re-purposing Old Baskets for New Storage Areas

The saw base isn’t the only thing re-purposed in this custom wood dry bar.  The black wire side baskets are also re-purposed kitchen storage baskets.  Matching with the black trim and legs of the piece, the baskets add another unique storage area for liquor bottles, drink making tools or cups.  Since the baskets are wire they don’t block the view to what’s stored in the baskets.  The wire nature of the baskets also enable the view of the grain in the wood of the main cabinet area.

The top of the bar has a raised serving area and is accented with some wood accents.  The front of the bar has a drawer that is an excellent storage area.  It can fit larger bottles, glasses or other items you keep handy when serving your guests.  The piece is finally tied together with black accent trim and handles.
